Lately I think my mom as grown a few more gray hairs over this whole thing, and it’s not even her party. Pictures of me line the house, like I am king. It’s kind of nice but I can only see so much of myself. I am looking forward to the loads of money I am about to receive and that what brings me to my point. I have received up to $50 from my fathers cousin I have never even meet. If people I don't even know are sending me that much I worried about how much to give my best friends that are graduating with me. I could not help but wonder if things would be different (even though I know it will) when I leave to college. I don’t know if I will keep in touch with everyone or not. I hope that I will but when we all go our separate ways none of us will have the same schedule so we won’t be able to sit and talk. This is why the internet is so great. I was thinking the other day and I have no sports to compete in and this is kind of depressing. So, I'm going to start the golf game. I always thought that golf was for girls but, when I went out with my friend the other day I had a lot of fun. So I signed up for a league and we both compete every Wednesday together. I hope competing out side of high school is fun. Its kind of funny how we all move out into the world alone. By golfing I can make plenty of new friends and learn how to communicate with others better. I think that this was a wise decision on my part. This is absolutely crazy!!!! When I fill up my tank I get sick and want to cry. Why all the hatred between countries? If I were president I would be making up my own source of fuel. I realize that drilling in the Alaska forest isn’t the most appealing thing to do but, how many of you have been there? If you have then would the forest look any less eye appealing with oil lines running through it? These are questions we all need to ask ourselves. I thought they got hit by a hurricane. Thats right they did. They are still having this celebration because it's a tradition. They mayor stated to the press that he was perfectly fine with it and that the hurricane didn't matter. I think people have better things to worry about than having Mardi Gras. I would think that the mayor would be smart to express to the public that there is still alot of work to be done to the city and that this break is well deserved because of all the progress so far. The way the mayor said it the first time made it sound like he was just wanting a good time. There is still work to do in New Orleans and I agree with the people that are mad about Mardi Gras. The thing to focus on would be to get your city back in order. Do we just sit there and say nothing watching T.V. until one of us makes small talk. Or is it that neither of us want to say anything at all? When there is nonverbal communication, do you really know what the person is saying? Well, lets look at the questions, and I will try to answer them the best I can. When we have nothing to say, then there is no speech spoken, but we still have nonverbal communication going on. That is saying something without words. When we say nothing at all, then maybe we don't feel comfortable with the other person or we just don't really feel like saying anything. I know I do that. Sometimes I just sit there and watch tv and don't say anything at all to anyone. Sometimes I just get tired of talking. When nonverbal communication is flowing, then you shouldn't need to say anything. When do you break the silence then? Why do you break the silence? I think you should break the silence with something like a question. Then from there you can discover a lot about the person. If they reply with a short answer, then they are either in a bad mood or they are bored or the subject just doesn't interest them. If they get your drift by responding to the question, they will come back with one of there own. This is how you talk to people when no one really wants to talk.

Thomas

Lucky winners

Hey every body,

What would you do if you won the powerball? The eight people that won the biggest powerball in history probably don’t know what they're going to do. I was reading this article and I found out the people that won it were from Lincoln and that they worked at a factory. The thing that amazed me was that three of the people went into work the next day knowing that their millionaires and they just shrugged it off like it was nothing. It is amazing to me that people can be so nice and modest. The article also said that the people were from different countries and that is cool because they come here looking for a new life. They definitely got a new life. I wouldn't have any idea what to do with that much money. These people had to have been giving off body language that said I feel like a million bucks. If you won the lottery people could obviously see that you were happy and maybe even a little nervous. I just can't imagine the body language given off. I had never thought about this and was wondering, what are some things a vet can't do? Well, after some thought, I came to the conclusion that a vet cannot perscribe any medicine to a human being. This would be unethical because your job is not to take care of humans, your job is to take care of animals. If you were to give someone medicine that you thought was for their sick heifer and they gave it to their sick son, what would happen to you if the son died. You would probably get sued and lose your liscense. Which brings me to my next point. If you're preforming vet medicine on animals, then you need to be liscensed. If your not liscensed and giving perscriptions, then you're not the vet I will take my animals to. Not to mention that if you get caught practicing without a liscense, then you will probably never be able to get your liscense anyway. The thing about being ethical in medicine is that you almost have to be or else you will probably lose your liscense for good and then you wasted six to seven years of your life. Well thats all for now. Good luck to all those wrestlers out there in the state tournament!!!!!!!!!

Thomas

Trying to be cute

Hello,

I was reading an article on the weblog assignment page and it I found one that said trying to be cute can cost you with customers. I thought about this because I have been a waiter and a bus boy before and I was wondering how this affected a persons business. The thing I picked up when I read is that when a person says something smart and doesn't really mean anything by the comment, they tend to not think anything is wrong and go on with their business. I can't imagine how many times I've done this serving customers at Carlos O'Kelly's. When your a waiter you have to be cute or flirtty when serving them because you want a big tip. The nicer you are then the bigger tip you'll get. We as people just need to slow down and think before we say things. Then we can realize what we say can be taken two different ways. By the way the article was http://www.bizjournals.com/extraedge/consultants/sell_more/2006/01/30/column203.html

later for now

Thomas

Hello Everyone,

I was just browsing the internet today when I spoted this article.
http://www.syracuse.com/entertainment/poststandard/index.ssf?/base/entertainment-0/113463931925020.xml&coll=1
This article talks about the sloppy speech we use. I thought that it was rather interesting especially because I'm in the oral communication class. It pretty much says the same thing we've heard since we were twelve, but people still use the what I call "filler words". These words don't give any importance to the conversation, all they do is let the brain catch up to the mouth. To stop this, you could try several things such as carry a tape recorder with you and listen at the end of the day to all the filler words you use. Another thing would be to wear a rubber band and snap your self every time you use a filler word. These techniques can be very effective. The reason the article caught my attention was because I would like to be a veterinarian some day and that job requires talking to people. If I use filler words every other sentence, people are going to think they're doing business with an idiot. Effective speech is key in anything you do and that is why the article was so interesting when I read it.

E-mail @ work

Hello All,

I was reading http://www.fayettevillenc.com/article?id=225309 about how e-mail is supposed to be this big thing at work. I will agree that e-mail makes it nice to do some things like remind someone of a sale coming up or something like that. The reason i say this is because it could be hard to reach this person or maybe you don't really know them that well. I do have a problem with e-mail too, however. The only problem i have with e-mail in the work place is that it limits personal interaction with other co-workers and this could be a serious problem. How is one to express emotion if your message is only in words? Alot of things said need to be expressed with emotion to make yourself clear or to express a point. If you don't talk to anybody at work then how are you going to like your job or how are you going to make friends? What about developing your interpersonal skills? That is part of the reason I go to work everyday is because my friends are there. If no one talks other than by e-mail, how do friendships develop? I have a big problem with only using e-mail. True you do learn how to type, but you do need to learn people skills in order to become a productive member of society. That's all for now.

Thomas

First post

Hello everybody, this is my first post ever on this website. I am supposed to be doing this for class and i hope to get good use out of this website. i don't really know what i am supposed to be wrighting about yet, so i'm going to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Marquette Nebraska and now reside in Grand Island. I enjoy participating in sports and i love agriculture. Some day i hope to get my Vet. medicine degree and start my own large animal pratice. The sport i am currently active in is wrestling. I wrestle at 152 lbs. and am hopefully going to make it to the state tournament this year for the second time. That would be a great accomplishment for me. Another sport i will be soon be participating in will be the high school rodeo and the event will be bull riding. I have done this for about two years and love the rush. The thing about this is that there is more to it than sitting on an animal and holding on. For me it's the science that goes into the sport it's self. Well untill next time see ya later.
